Bluffs Housing Development
Soil Guard was applied on July 3 1998 to a approximate 2.5 to 1 slope. The owner tried numerous times to vegetate this site but was unsuccessful due to frequent rains.
The Bluffs Housing Development site was having erosion problems on an area with highly erodible soil. After preparing the area, any rain event would cause rilling on unseeded ground. The owner of the development decided to put in a retaining wall to solve the problems. He contacted Construction Materials, Inc. to get materials for the wall and after some discussion, Soil Guard was approved. The owner saved thousands of dollars by using Soil Guard over installing a block retaining wall, needless to say, he was very pleased with the performance of Soil Guard General Information Location -- Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 
The owner was going to place a retaining wall in because of complaints from the city that too much silt was being passed into the city storm sewer. Soil Guard was discussed and approved for the project, Vegetation was successful after 30 days.
Specifier / Supplier -- Construction Materials, Inc. Owner -- Primus Development. Application Rate Soil Guard was applied at a rate of 3,400 pounds pre acre due to slope gradient. The material was shot from the turret from 2 sides with an arching rain effect, getting 100% coverage using this method. Weather Conditions The morning of the shoot it was 80 degrees and humid with chance of late day thunderstorms. The Soil Guard was shot in less than 1 hour as was about 75% dry when a thunderstorm hit dumping about 1" of rain, causing no erosion. Results The Bluffs had very good results for seeding the first week of July. Full vegetation was accomplished within a month with only natural watering. |
