New property owners decided to clean up a dry streambed. The Washington State Department of Fisheries, The Department of Ecology and Kitsap County officials soon notified them that the stream was a Coho Salmon spawning area. They were required to return the stream to its natural state.
Log weirs, large organic debris, rip rap and native plants were put in place. The job was specified to have jute matting placed from the water line to the top of the banks. Because of the log weirs, LOD, riprap and plants, blankets were nearly impossible to lay. Soil Guard® was applied to the ¼ mile of stream river at a rate of 3,500 pounds per acre.
During the first winter, no Soil Guard® was lost. There was no change to the river or it's structure. To date the project has Survived 4 winters of the river overflowing its banks.
